ARDS HOLD ON TO DEFEAT SWANS
Ards made it two wins from two with victory over Newington at Clandeboye Park.
John Bailie's side led at the break when, on 41 minutes, Zach Barr knocked home the loose ball after Newington keeper Dean Smyth had kept out Eamon Scannell's initial effort.
Ards doubled their lead on 56 minutes through Lee Newell after he appeared to get the final touch after the ball had bounced around the area, but the Swans pulled one back a few minutes after that when Patrick Downey had bundled the ball over the line.
However Scannell restored Ards' two-goal cushion with just under a quarter-of-an-hour remaining with a stunning effort from 30 yards.
Conall Curran hit Newington's second with a minute of normal time to go, and they might have levelled deep into stoppage time only for Ards keeper Marc Matthews to produce a superb stop as the ball looked destined for the top corner.
