PORTS STILL ON THE TITLE CHARGE
Portadown blew Ards away with a stunning second half trio of goals that keeps their Playr-Fit Championship title charge alive.
Portadown took the lead in fortiouitous circumstances on 6 minutes as Ryan Mayse's stinging shot was well pushed onto the crossbar by goalkeeper Alex Moore, but defender Matthew Gorman in attempting to head clear, diverted the ball helplessly into his own net for the opening goal.
Despite bossing much of the play, Portadown let the visitors back into the game on 39 minutes, as Conor Maxwell's deep free kick from the right was met by the unmarked Ross Hunter who tapped home the equaliser to put Ards right back into the game.
The Ports came out revitalised in the second half and took the game to their opponents, as Ross Redman capitalised on the Ards defence's poor defending from a Douglas Wilson cross, to fire the home side back in the lead on 56 minutes.
On 60 minutes, Luke Wilson rose to head in a third for Portadown from a Ryan Mayse cross.
Then three minutes later, Portadown added their fourth to seal the points as Gary Thompson robbed the ball in the middle of the park and good work from Mayse again played through Eamon Fyfe who squeezed the ball under Moore for a third goal in seven blistering minutes.
Ards weren't finished yet as they pulled a goal back on 74 minutes when Ross Hunter headed home his second goal of the afternoon to make it 4-2, but it only proved to be a consolation for Matthew Tipton's side.
