NEWRY DRAW BLANK AT THE BRANDYWELL
Newry City missed a spot-kick and had a man sent off but still battled to a scoreless draw with Institute at the Brandywell.
The visitors had early chances to take the lead with Daniel Hughes blazing one effort over, while John McGovern sent a header too high and referee Diarmuid Harrigan waved away penalty claims.
But, as play settled, it turned out to be an uneventful and scrappy affair for long periods with neither side able to find a way through.
However, things livened up somewhat just after the hour when the visitors were reduced to ten men following Stephen Moan's dismissal for denying a clear goalscoring opportunity.
Then, not long after that, City were awarded a spot-kick after Noel Healy was brought down in the box but Hughes could only look on as his subsequent penalty was saved by experienced home keeper John Connolly.
