TOP TWO FINISH EVEN AT CLANDEBOYE
Ards and Newry City met at Clandeboye Park with a place at the top of the table at stake but, in the end, both had to be content with a point.
Leaders Ards remain in pole position and took an early lead when, after 12 minutes, Conall McGrandles ran onto a Patrick Cafolla corner to glance a header past Steven Maguire into the top corner.
Newry levelled just before the half-hour mark through Darren King who showed no shortage of determination to force the ball home at the back post after a free-kick had been played into the box.
Ards might have regained the advantage soon after through Calvin McCurry while Daniel Reynolds had the ball in the net before the break but this was ruled out offside.
Newry had the better chances in the second half, and could have shaded it late in the game but were thwarted when Thomas Lockhart saw an effort saved by Brian Neeson followed by a timely Conall Young tackle to deny King as he was about to pull the trigger.
