McCABE AND McARDLE ON TARGET FOR NEWRY
Goals from Mark McCabe and Kevin McArdle helped Newry City defeat Dergview at Darragh Park.
Scoreless at the break, Newry came closest in the first half early in proceedings through Adam Foley with a terrific right-foot effort from outside the area which smashed off the crossbar before being cleared to safety.
However, it only took the visitors five minutes into the second to move in front when McCabe, who had an earlier effort well saved by Paul Wells, beat Andrew Sproule to a ball from the right to flick it past the keeper at the near post.
Then, on 70 minutes, Wells picked up a Dale Maxwell backpass inside the area and, from the free-kick that followed, McArdle fired home through the crowded goalmouth.
Dergview did grab a late consolation with around a minute of normal time remaining through Sean McCarron with a clever backheel from point blank range after a throw-in from the right found him.
