KELLY, CARVILLE AND McCABE ON TARGET FOR NEWRY
Goals from Mark Kelly, Declan Carville and Mark McCabe helped Newry City defeat Knockbreda at The Showgrounds.
Kelly opened the scoring after just six minutes with a left-foot effort from inside the area after a long throw-in was only partially cleared by 'Breda defender Francis Rice.
Carville, back in Newry colours following his spell with Ballymena United, might have added a second but he could only fire against the crossbar from a good position in front of goal.
Knockbreda levelled with ten minutes of the first half remaining when Peter McDermott bundled the ball over the line from Noel Halfpenny's troublesome free-kick which the home defence failed to clear.
Carville was unfortunate once again when he looked certain to find the net only to be thwarted by a goalline clearance but he was eventually rewarded for his efforts on 67 minutes when, following a sweeping move, he received the ball from Brian Cabraley to fire Newry back in front.
'Breda were reduced to ten men soon after when keeper Jonah Magill was shown a straight red card for handling outside the area as McCabe attempted to lob him after running onto a through ball.
However, McCabe did bag Newry's third deep into stoppage time with a well placed header from Darren King's cross from the right.
