FERGUSON DOUBLE SECURES WIN FOR WELDERS
Matthew Ferguson bagged both goals as HW Welders defeated Ards at the Bangor Fuels Arena.
The 24-year-old opened the scoring with just over a quarter-of-an-hour on the clock after receiving the ball from Alan McMurtry before turning outside the area and sending an unstoppable effort into the top left corner beyond the reach of Brian Neeson.
Ards attempted to carve out the equaliser with Craig McMillen and Michael McLellan both fizzing efforts just wide while, at the other end, McMurtry saw a low drive pushed away by Neeson.
However, Ards did get back on level terms just before the hour when McMillen delivered a corner from the left which bypassed everyone before ending up in the far corner of the net.
And the home side might have moved in front soon after when McLellan did well down the right to cross to opposite side of the box but the onrushing Kym Nelson was unlucky to head into the side netting.
Gary Spence had a chance to restore the lead for the Welders later in the game only to head over from a corner around six yards out before, with nine minutes remaining, Ferguson scored what proved to be the winner with an unstoppable strike from 12 yards after Ross Arthurs had nodded the ball on.
