QUICK FIRE NEWRY SWEEP PAST PSNI
Three goals inside the opening half-an-hour helped Newry City sweep to a comfortable victory over PSNI at The Showgrounds.
The opening goal arrived on 15 minutes when Adam Foley tapped home from the edge of the six-yard box after Mark McCabe had crossed from the right side of the area.
It was 2-0 on 26 minutes when a clever McCabe backheel released Stephen Moan to deliver the ball from the left for Mark Hughes to send a downward header past Lewis Brown at the far post.
Then, four minutes after that, John Boyle rose highest to nod home number three after a free-kick had been delivered from the right.
McCabe might have added a fourth before the break when he ran onto a ball over the top and out sprinted the defence only to fire into the side netting.
In the second half Kevin McArdle saw a free-kick turned over by Brown while, soon after, the 16-year-old keeper denied McCabe at the near post after he had got on the end of a defence splitting Hughes pass.
Indeed, Brown was kept busy throughout the second half with a succession of stops to deny, amongst others, Foley and substitute John McGovern.
