STUDENTS BATTLE BACK TO HIT FIVE AT THE DUB
Queen's University staged a remarkable comeback to defeat HW Welders at The Dub despite falling behind to two goals inside the opening quarter-of-an-hour.
Matthew Ferguson opened the scoring for the Welders on nine minutes when he was allowed to head unchallenged past Andrew Gawne from the edge of the six yard box after meeting Ross Arthurs' cross from the right.
Then, four minutes after that, he crept in to slide the ball past Gawne as the home keeper went to gather Dylan Davidson's shot from outside the area.
Queen's pulled a goal back just before the half-hour mark when Lorcan McIlroy ran onto a ball over the top to bring the ball forward and beat the advancing Ryan Miskelly into the bottom right.
The Students then levelled on 34 minutes through Jonah Mitchell when he rosed highest to nod home Leon Bonnes' chip from the left side of the box.
Marc McKenna then edged Queen's in front three minutes into the second half with a well taken free-kick from distance which beat Miskelly in off the underside of the bar.
Skipper Matthew Hughes then bagged two goals in quick succession later in the second half to put the game beyond doubt.
First, on 74 minutes, he touched the ball home after Ciaran O'Hare's initial effort was blocked on the line before, six minutes after that, he swept the ball home from just inside the area after McKenna had found him with a pass.
