SALLEY SECOND HALF DOUBLE SECURES POINTS FOR PORTS
Two second half Adam Salley goals helped Portadown defeat Newry City in this Friday night clash at The Showgrounds.
The win moves Matt Tipton's side three points clear at the top of the Bluefin Sport Championship overnight.
However, it was Newry that grabbed the initial advantage when, on 18 minutes, Mark Hughes sent Bobby Edwards the wrong way from the spot after he had been brought down by Stephen Teggart to win the penalty.
Newry had a chance to extend their lead before the break when Thomas McCann tested Edwards at the near post but the Ports keeper did well to get down to save.
For the Ports Salley tested Andy Coleman with a header from Greg Hall's cross while Teggart saw a shot blocked before McNally's follow up went wide.
Portadown did level just before the hour when Luke Wilson laid the ball off for Teggart who in turn crossed for Salley to send a glancing header beyond Coleman at the back post.
Then, on 67 minutes, Salley doubled up with a rebound into the bottom corner after Wilson's initial effort from a Callum Ferris run was pushed out.
Edwards kept the Ports in front as the game moved into the closing ten minutes with a superb diving save while Teggart had a later chance to put the outcome beyond doubt but his effort from distance was straight at Coleman.
