MITCHELL DOUBLE FOR QUEENS SINKS ARDS

Queens University came from behind from an early setback against Ards to claim three valuable Bluefin Sport Championship points at The Dub.

Warren Feeney’s Ards took an early lead when Dylan Wilson opens the scoring after just five minutes, cutting inside to drill a low left footed drive past Lally from just inside the penalty area.

Jonah Mitchell forced Queens' first chance ten minutes later as he found space 20 yards out to drill a stinging drive which Neeson had to react quickly to push out for a corner.

It was Mitchell who found an equaliser for the home side with 20 minutes gone, again finding room and this time fired into the top corner with aplomb, giving Neeson little chance of rescuing the visitors.

Michael McLellan had a goal ruled out as referee McGrath had ruled that the burly striker had committed a foul en route to slotting the ball in from close range.

With two minutes of the half remaining, Lally pulled off a superb save for Queens as he managed to claw McLellan's goalbound header from a corner away to keep the scores level going into the break. That save proved vital as straight down the other end Jonah Mitchell's corner was powerfully headed home by captain Matthew Hughes to give Queens the lead.

With 63 minutes gone, things got worse for Ards when Kym Nelson Adam Calvert to concede a penalty. Up stepped Jonah Mitchell who scored from spot for his second goal of the afternoon.

Ards continued to press but failed to forge any clear cut chances in the remaining stages of the game, the closest they came was McLelllan’s stinging shot cannoning off the crossbar on 70 minutes and away to safety.
