HAT-TRICK FOR FOLEY AS NEWRY HIT FIVE
Adam Foley bagged a hat-trick as Newry City swept to a crushing defeat of Ards at The Showgrounds.
Newry moved in front on 14 minutes when Mark McCabe was brought down by Ards keeper Brian Neeson inside the area with Mark Hughes stepping up to convert the spot-kick that followed.
Foley opened his account nine minutes later. An Andy Coleman goal kick was nodded on by McCabe to John McGovern who, in turn, hooked it forward for Foley to run onto and fire across Neeson into the net.
Ards pulled one back six minutes from the break through Kyle Calderwood with a confident finish from a Craig McMillen corner.
However, just after the hour, McCabe restored Newry's two-goal advantage after Foley made the most of a William Armstrong error to tee him up.
Foley then hit another two goals midway through the second half to hammer home Newry's superiority.
On 70 minutes a free-kick reached him on the left corner of the area to slot beyond Neeson into the far side of the net before, eight minutes later, completed the scoring with a close range finish.
