NEWRY BAG ALL THREE POINTS AT QUEENS
Newry City bagged a much needed win on the road, as they won 3-1 against Queens University in the Bluefin Sport Championship.
Teenager John McGovern opened the scoring for the visitors after just eight minutes. Just before the break on 40 minutes midfielder Kevin McArdle added a second for the home side.
Peter Thompson’s side struck back six minutes into the second half, as Matthew Hughes scored his sixth league goal of the season to take him joint top of the Championship’s goalscoring charts.
Just when it looked like a Queens University comeback may be on, John Grant put the game to bed with Newry City’s third and final goal of the afternoon on 62 minutes.
That vital victory for Darren Mullen’s men moves Newry into seventh place, leap-frogging Queens – who sit in tenth place, now only a point above the relegation playoff place.
