FERGUSON DOUBLE ONLY ENOUGH FOR POINT AT BREDA PARK
HW Welders slipped into the bottom two in the Bluefin Sport Championship after their 2-2 draw with basement side Knockbreda on Saturday.
It was the home side that opened the scoring after just 12 minutes, a long ball forward was latched onto by Alex Pomeroy who held off the challenge of Scott Nixon to drill his effort low into the corner past Ryan Miskelly.
Parity was restored just six minutes afterwards, Scott Davidson raced down the left flank and floated a superb ball over the ‘Breda defence to allow Matthew Ferguson to head home the equaliser for the Welders.
Knockbreda fought back once again and resumed their lead on 28 minutes – as David Fearon unleashed an unstoppable free-kick into the top left corner from just outside the box, giving Miskelly no chance.
The Championship’s bottom side fought hard to maintain their advantage but the pressure from the Welders told on 69 minutes. Knockbreda failed to clear a corner properly and at the second attempt, after some nice build up play, Ferguson grabbed his second of the day as he emphatically volleyed home from six yards out.
Dylan Davidson had a chance to win it for the visitors after finding himself one-on-one with goalkeeper but after beating Russell, he couldn’t steer his effort into the net and the Welders had to settle for a point.
