TUMELTY DOUBLE HELPS PSNI TO SECOND WIN
The PSNI recorded their second league win on the bounce with victory over Dergview at The Dub.
They raced into an early lead when, after just seven minutes, Stuart Hutchinson crossed from the right for Brian Cabraley to tap home from the left edge of the six yard box.
And it was 2-0 just five minutes after that when Jack McAlister collected a Mark Anderson lay-off to come into the area down the left and deliver a low pass across the box for Tony Tumelty to turn home at the far post.
Dergview hit back on 24 minutes thanks to Dale Maxwell's header to a corner floated over from the left but, sixty seconds later, the PSNI restored their two-goal advantage when Cabraley delivered a long crossfield ball for Tumelty to bag his second of the game with a shot across the box into the bottom left corner.
The visitors pressed hard to get back into the game, creating a number of chances in the remainder of the first half before, early in the second, Sean McCarron saw an effort from around 20 yards sail just over with another shot not long after saved by Daniele di Giorgio.
Dergview then squandered a great opportunity when Matthew Buchanan was brought down by Nathan Riddle inside the area but Andrew Sproule fired the subsequent spot-kick off target despite di Giorgio diving the wrong way.
To their credit, the visitors kept pressing and were thwarted again when McCarron saw a goalbound effort following a scramble headed off the line by Riddle.
But, in the end, the PSNI held on to claim the points and might have extended their lead late in the game when substitute Charlie Martyn twice threatened.
