MALLARDS STRETCH UNBEATEN RUN
Ballinamallard United stretched their unbeaten run to four games with this two-goal defeat of HW Welders at Tillysburn Park.
The Mallards got off to a bright start when Nathan Cashel tested Welders keeper Ryan Miskelly from outside the box before, on 11 minutes, Joshua McIlwaine rose on the edge of the six yard box to nod home a cross delivered from the right.
Harry McConkey's side continued to dominate the early proceedings with Ryan Campbell, Sean McEvoy and Ryan O'Reilly all going close.
The Welders had their chances, too, with Luckas Gwiazda twice just missing the target but as the first half drew to a close it was the visitors that looked more likely to find the net with both McIlwaine and Cashel sending efforts over.
Indeed, Cashel almost made it 2-0 during the opening moments of the second half but was thwarted by Miskelly when through one-on-one.
At the other end Gwiazda was presented with another opportunity with a back post header which went just wide in what was developing into an end-to-end encounter.
Both sides even had the ball in the net on separate occasions but each was ruled out after the referee spotted an infringement.
In the end, however, the Mallards doubled their advantage in the closing moments of normal time when Campbell fired low across Miskelly into the far corner after Aaron Arkinson held the ball up before laying off a pass on the right side of the area.
