EARLY GOALS HELP PORTS TO THE POINTS
A goal early in each half helped Portadown defeat HW Welders at Shamrock Park to move into third spot, a point off the pace.
Lee Bonis, a summer signing from Seagoe, opened the scoring after nine minutes with a header into the top opposite corner after connecting with George Tipton's corner from the right.
Just prior to that Adam McCallum headed a Tipton free-kick narrowly wide while, after going ahead, the Ports pushed to extend their advantage through efforts from Adam Salley and Stephen Teggart.
However, they had to wait until a couple of minutes into the second half to double their lead when Greg Hall went on a long run down the right before firing a low shot past Welders keeper Ryan Miskelly.
Further chances followed courtesy of Paddy McNally and Salley again while the Welders might have clawed back into the game when Matthew Hall and then Ryan Deans sent headers just over.
