GRAHAM AND DAVIDSON EARN HOME WIN FOR WELDERS
HW Welders made it two home wins from two with victory over Queen's University at Tillysburn Park.
Marc McKenna came within a whisker of opening the scoring for Queen's when he came rushing in but just failed to connect with Christopher Middleton's cross from the right delivered into the box.
The Welders might have moved in front themselves in similar circumstances soon after. Alan McMurtry sent the ball towards the far post with Ross Arthurs just touching it wide.
But the Welders did grab the advantage on 18 minutes when McMurtry's corner from the right was pushed back out to David Graham on the left edge of the area and he duly despatched it beyond Conan Doherty into the opposite corner.
And it was 2-0 soon after when, on the counter attack, McMurtry laid the ball off for Scott Davidson to slot home into the unguarded net after Doherty had committed himself.
The Students pushed to get back into the game after the break with Ronan Young posing a threat on occasion while substitute Lorcan McIlroy had an effort thwarted by keeper Ryan Miskelly.
They did pull one back with six minutes remaining when another substitute David Magee swept a pass on the left through for Matthew Hughes to tuck below the Welders keeper.
