SMITH AND BUCHANAN HELP DERGVIEW DEFEAT MALLARDS
Dergview swept to a two-goal win over Ballinamallard United at Darragh Park thanks to finishes from Paul Smith and Matthew Buchanan.
Smith, in his second spell at club following a brief time with Institute, opened the scoring with just over a quarter-of-an-hour gone after sending the ball past John Connolly direct from a corner.
The Mallards came close to levelling on 32 minutes when Matthew Smyth beat keeper Ruairi McElroy to a free-kick only to head just over.
Ballinamallard created further efforts through Ryan Campbell and Nathan Cashel but McElroy proved equal to each challenge.
Dergview extended their advantage early in the second half when another Smith corner was nodded home by Matthew Buchanan.
Despite now trailing by two goals the Mallards kept pressing in an attempt to salvage something from the game but were denied by a goalline clearance with Sean McEvoy later twice thwarted from point blank range.
Ryan Morris and substitute Jason McCartney also had chances as the game progressed while Graham Young might have added to Dergview's lead in the closing moments only for Connolly to pull off a good save.
