WELDERS OFF TO THE PERFECT START
A goal in each half helped HW Welders kick off the season with a decisive victory over Newry City at Tillysburn Park.
Scott Davidson almost grabbed the first goal of the new season when, after just six minutes, he saw an effort tipped onto the post by Andy Coleman from a well worked set piece.
Indeed the Welders kept Coleman busy, producing a number of good stops from the Newry custodian before, midway through the first half, Adam Wright finally found a way through when he tucked away the rebound from a Davidson free-kick.
The Welders could have extended their advantage before the break but Coleman did well again to hold onto another effort, this time from Dylan Davidson some distance out.
Newry were much improved in the second half but the Welders made sure of the points in the closing moments when substitute Ross Arthurs fired past Coleman with a low drive from just outside the area.
