SEAHAWKS FIGHT BACK TO EARN POINT

Portstewart came from two goals down to earn a point from this visit to face Banbridge Town at Crystal Park.

Banbridge started brightly and as early as the second minute a nicely constructed move down the right saw Michael Allison running in on goal, only to he see his shot pushed away by Andy Findlay for a corner. From Conor Downey's set piece, Stephen Greene got his head to the ball only to be denied by another good save.

The Town continued to push forward and took the lead in the 10th minute when Downey's effort, which appeared to be going wide, was neatly deflected by Stephen McCavitt past Findlay.

In the interim, Gerard McErlean in the home goal was forced to tip over the bar a fine effort from Caolan Gillan just after Portstewart's Nicky Hudson hit a screamer which sailed just wide.

Banbridge doubled their advantage on 19 minutes when McCavitt turned provider as his cross allowed strike partner Darren McGrath to turn on the edge of the box and fire home.

Despite the setbacks, the visitors played their way back into the match, pulling a goal back on 38 minutes when Tommy Elder was on hand to fire home the loose ball after McErlean pushed aside an initial effort.

Portstewart controlled the game for long stretches of the play after the break, forcing several corners which the home defence dealt with well.

But the Seahawks levelled on 73 minutes through substitute Karl Steele with a well struck free-kick some 20 yards from goal which gave McErlean no chance.

Banbridge regrouped and forced two more stunning saves from Findlay but despite their best efforts couldn't regain the lead.
