Both sides pressed hard in the scoreless first half, albeit without really troubling either 'keeper.

Apart, that was, once incident midway through, when United's Conor McKinley showed his strength to hold off Aaron Harris before sending an effort goalbound towards the top right corner only for Whites 'keeper Tony Galbraith to tip the ball over.

McKinley might have found a way through after that only to head wide from five yards while, for the visitors, Harris teamed up with Alan McMurty and Paul Young to release Jody Lynch but he fired over from 25 yards.

The deadlock was eventually broken just before the hour when McKinley found the bottom left corner after a Neil Lamont cross landed at his feet.

And McKinley could have added a second soon after but he couldn't capitalise on a pass from Peter Duffin.

Home 'keeper Matthew McGraw was called into action as the game progressed to scramble away a Lynch effort before Darren Doherty had a go from distance.
