ELDER SPOT ON FOR SEAHAWKS

A Thomas Elder penalty proved to be the difference between Portstewart and Lurgan Celtic at Knockramer Park.

Celtic squandered the opportunity to seize the early advantage when, after five minutes, they were awarded a penalty but Gerard Rooney's effort was well saved by keeper Andy Findlay with a save low to his left.

Then, on 28 minutes, the visitors were presented with a spot-kick of their own and, on this occasion, Elder made no mistake with a clinical finish past Ciaran Fox.

After the break Celtic had the benefit of the wind but couldn't make it count with substitute Kevin McAlinden perhaps coming closest when he worked his way into the area only to see his rising effort go over the bar.

Then, right at the end, Peter McCann could have levelled for the Hoops but his close range header was well tipped over by Findlay.
