BLUEFIN SPORT PREMIER INTERMEDIATE LEAGUE PREVIEW: 14 APRIL

It’s a busy week of football in the Bluefin Sport Premier Intermediate League with the ‘split’ looming and plenty to play for at both ends of the table.

The top two are both in actions in the three Saturday fixtures in the Premier Intermediate League as both Dundela and Queen’s University play their penultimate games before the split with the Wilgar Park side enjoying a five point cushion now, following their victory over Sport & Leisure in Thursday night’s re-arranged fixture.

Dundela welcome a Banbridge Town side to East Belfast, who claimed their place in the top six following a dramatic 2-1 win over Donegal Celtic on Tuesday which was sealed by a stoppage time Timmy Grant penalty. The Duns are still unbeaten in the league since September but will face a few tired legs as they attempt to play two games in less than 48 hours.

Peter Thompson’s Queen’s University side enjoyed a memorable week as they progressed to the final of the Intermediate Cup following victory over Glebe Rangers and will be hoping to close the gap with a win against ninth placed Portstewart, who themselves would welcome three points to virtually ensure their place in the division next season.

The final of the trio of third tier games is at Fortwilliam Park as top half chasing Tobermore United are at home to basement side Donegal Celtic and go into the game full of confidence following their 2-0 win over Queens’ last Saturday. The Hoops however are in freefall and are in the midst of an eight game winless streek which included the sacking of manager Stephen Hatfield.

Fixtures (kick-offs 3pm)
Dundela v Banbridge Town
Portstewart v Queen’s University
Tobermore United v Donegal Celtic
