Annagh United defeated Tobermore United by the odd goal in five in the league campaign opener at Fortwilliam Park.

Three of the goals came in a scoring frenzy either side of the break. Peter Duffin edged Tobermore in front on 43 minutes, but it was a briefly held advantage after Ruairi McDonald levelled for the visitors within sixty seconds.

Then, just three minutes into the second half, David Scullion fired Annagh in front from ten yards after connecting with a great cross from Scott McCordick.

Duffin then levelled for Tobermore on the hour but, with just two minutes remaining, Andrew Gordon made the most of good work from Ben Eagle to turn home the winner from close range.

A few minutes earlier referee John Maxwell produced three red cards to reduce Tobermore to nine men and Annagh to ten.

Thomas Elder and Christian Stewart were dismissed for violent conduct after the ball had gone out of play while, a minute later, Shane Mulgrew collected his second caution of the game for dissent after an earlier booking for unsporting behaviour.
