Tobermore United hold the unique record of being the only Northern Irish club for which George Best played a competitive game.
The 'Belfast Boy' made one appearance for the club back in 1983/84 when he turned out for them in an Irish Cup game at home to Ballymena United. Unfortunately for Tobermore, the Sky Blues strolled to a 7-0 victory on their way to lifting the trophy that season.
Founded in 1965, Tobermore quickly progressed through the ranks enjoying success in the Northern Ireland Intermediate League during the late 70s and early 80s before making the step up to Irish League level.
Following a league structure early this century the club picked up their first Irish League title when they lifted the old Second Division title at the end of the 2004/05 campaign.
Since then they have yo-yo'd between the Championship and Premier Intermediate Leagues (or equivalents), most recently winning promotion back to the second tier in 2010/11 before suffering relegation again a couple of seasons later.
