Portadown defeated HW Welders at Shamrock Park to earn their place in the pre play-off against Carrick Rangers for the chance to face the side finishing second bottom in the Premiership.

Sean Mackle opened the scoring after 12 minutes when he got his head to a Kevin Braniff corner delivered from the left.

A number of further chances followed before Adam McCallum made it 2-0 on the stroke of half-time after running to the near post to flick a Braniff free-kick over keeper Matthew Anderson.

The Welders pulled a goal back with seven minutes remaining through Matthew Ferguson's drilled finish past Declan Dunne at the right post.

But, right at the end, Chris Lavery added number three for Portadown after receiving the ball from Andy Kilmartin and having the time and space to beat Anderson from distance.
