Portadown moved into second spot in the Bluefin Sport Championship with victory over Dundela at Shamrock Park.

Matt Tipton's side got off to a perfect start when, as early as the second minute, Gerard Thompson fired from 30 yards into the top corner.

Dundela levelled through Tiarnan McNicholl a quarter-of-an-hour later, finding the bottom corner after breaching the home defence.

And the Duns might have edged in front when a cross from the left connected with the base of the right post before, on 33 minutes, the visitors did move in front through David McMaster who beat Declan Dunne to the ball to find the empty net.

However, Portadown made matters all square again five minutes later courtesy of Aaron Duke's finish from a Sean Mackle ball over the top.

Then, just two minutes from the break, Chris Lavery fired Portadown back into the lead with a nodded finish from Liam McKenna's near post corner.

It was almost 4-2 a couple of minutes into the second half when Mackle struck Dundela's left post with a free-kick from around 30 yards out.

The sides continued to trade chances in an end-to-end game but no further goals were forthcoming although the Duns were denied by the woodwork towards the end when McMaster struck the bottom of an upright before Carl McComb fired the point blank rebound wide.

There was one last opportunity for Portadown in stoppage time when Salley's header from a corner was cleared off the line.
