NO HAPPY HOMECOMING FOR SPROULE

There was no fairytale homecoming for Ivan Sproule and assistant Neil Coulter as the new Dergview managerial team welcomed Dundela to Darragh Park.

Despite how it all ended up, the Castlederg men got off to a perfect start when Gareth Doherty finished off a sweeping attack to fire them into a seventh minute lead.

An incisive pass by Matthew Kirk found Andy Sproule, who in turn, ushered in Doherty on the left and the former Finn Harps man picked his spot low inside Ryan McBride's far post.

That advantage lasted just two minutes and once the visitors equalised there was an inevitability about the final outcome. Barely two minutes later a mix-up in the home defence allowed David McMaster to run through and steer the ball into a gaping net.

The remainder of the half was evenly-contested although in the final third it was the visitors who were asking the bulk of the questions.

Livewire striker Jordan Hughes slid William Bingham in on the left but the wide attacker pushed his shot inches past the far post.

And just before half-time Dundela had another excellent opportunity when the ball fell to captain Ben Murdock following a corner but Alan Buchanan pulled off a superb point-blank save. In between Andy Sproule fizzed an effort inches over after a sweeping attack on the left.

Dergview had a glorious opportunity to forge ahead just two minutes after the restart. Adam Buchanan whipped over the most inviting of free kicks from wide on the right but from just two yards out flush in front of goal brother Matthew was unable to get the telling touch to convert.

That miss came sharply into focus just moments later when a sweeping attack ended up with Michael Logue turning the ball into his own net from a Matthew Parker cross.

Dergview responded with Adam Buchanan having a goal-bound drive charged down while at the opposite end Buchanan got down smartly to thwart Hughes.

Buchanan though had no chance with the visitors' third. Dundela swept forward on the right, McMaster picked out the run of Daniel Burns with a searching diagonal ball and the substitute took one touch before blasting home with the aid of a slight deflection off a defender.
