NIFWA Chairman Keith Bailie and Portadown's Chris Lavery

NIFWA CHAMPIONSHIP PLAYER OF THE MONTH - MARCH 2018

PORTADOWN man Chris Lavery has been named Championship Player of the Month for March by NIFWA.

The former Lurgan Celtic and Glentoran winger has been a vital part of Portadown's recent renaissance. The Shamrock Park club are now in the mix for a Play-Off spot and a potential return to the Premiership.

Lavery said, "Things have been great since Matthew Tipton came in, he's given us a lift and likes to play an attractive style of football that suits us, and we might yet be in contention for promotion.

"It's out of our hands but we have three games left, starting with the Welders today, and our job is to aim for maximum points and see how far that gets us."

In March, Chris helped Portadown to wins over Newry City, Loughgall and Ballyclare Comrades, scoring twice.

NIFWA Chairman Keith Bailie said, "Chris is a really exciting talent. He is a very worthy winner of this award. Portadown now have a very real chance of winning promotion."
