Sean Friars celebrates securing the Championship Development League North title last season.

FRIARS TAKES UP LIMAVADY HOTSEAT

Limavady United have announced the appointment of Sean Friars as first team manager for next season.

The 39-year-old Derry native, recently led his Institute Reserves side to the Championship Development League North title. A statement on the Limavady United social media read: “Limavady United is delighted to announce the appointment of Sean Friars as first team manager with immediate effect.”

Friars who previously had spells at Liverpool and Ipswich Town has enjoyed a wealth of experience in both the Irish League and the League of Ireland, having played at Derry City, Finn Harps, Cliftonville, Newry City and Institute amongst others, including short spell with his new club Limavady during the 2006/2007 season.

The move comes as Paul Owens last week returned to Coleraine as a first-team coach, after a hugely successful spell with the Roesiders. Owens won back-to-back third tier titles in 2015/2016 and 2016/2017 and consolidated the club’s place in the Bluefin Sport Championship with a ninth place finish last term.
