Ballyclare Comrades produced an excellent display to defeat the Ballinamallard United at Dixon Park.
In an entertaining first half, Comrades hit the front in the 22nd minute. Thomas Robinson, who was almost unplayable at times, struck a shot through a crowd from the edge of the box which found the back of the net.
The Mallards almost struck back straight away when, a minute later, Ryan Campbell got on the end of a defence splitting long ball before striking a fierce shot against the post from 16 yards.
On 26 minutes the visitors threatened again, with Jason McCartney shooting just wide of the far post from an angle nine yards out.
At the other end the home side continued to create chances. From one of these Mallards keeper John Connolly had to tip the ball over from a Jamie Willighan strike hit from 20 yards.
Then, from the resulting corner, played in by Joe McWilliams, Jason Johnston was there to head home from seven yards on the stroke of half-time.
The second half saw Comrades largely comfortable with their lead and indeed they looked the more likely to score again. The closest they came to adding to their tally was in the 85th minute, when substitute Joe Tully got in a glancing header as the ball came in from Adam Gray, but his effort came off the far post.
