Carrick Rangers moved three points clear of the chasing pack in second spot in the Bluefin Sport Championship following a Boxing Day defeat of Limavady United.

Rangers moved in front early in proceedings when, after just six minutes, Caolan Loughran fired through the legs of Roesiders keeper Connor Brown.

Chris Rodgers had the ball in the net a few minutes later but rather than double Carrick's lead the 'goal' was ruled out following a push in the build up.

Further chances followed as Carrick dominated the first half but it took them until the early stages of the second to find number two when Lloyd Anderson found the bottom corner of the net from close range.

Limavady might have pulled one back soon after, however, when Aaron Hogg did well to turn Ryan Doherty's shot from outside the area past an upright.

But, on 65 minutes, Stewart Nixon killed the game off when he got past a defender to slot a third goal beyond the reach of keeper Brown.

Doherty did find the net for the visitors with five minutes remaining with a well executed free-kick but it proved to be little more than a consolation.
