BALLYCLARE STRENGTHEN TOP SIX HOPES

Ballyclare Comrades moved a step closer towards securing a top six place with this defeat of fellow challengers Knockbreda at Dixon Park.

The win sees Ballyclare move four points clear of 'Breda in seventh spot but, crucially, only a couple of points behind Portadown in fourth.

Darius Roohi might have opened the scoring for the visitors after he got on the end of a Brendan Bennett knock forward only to poke the ball against an upright.

That was then followed by a Ryan Newberry free-kick from out on the right which curled over the wall onto the other post.

Despite these near misses the game was scoreless at the break but that all changed six minutes into the second half when Chris Trussell found a way through for Ballyclare with a sweet finish after being teed up by Eoin Kane.

Then, six minutes later, Jamie Willighan made it 2-0 when he pounced on the loose ball after Joe McWilliams' initial effort was parried away by keeper Lee Windrum.

'Breda did pull one back on 71 minutes. Matthew Johnston's free-kick from distance was touched onto the crossbar by Ben Fry but in the goalmouth scramble that followed Bennett got the decisive touch to turn the ball home.
