Ballinamallard United manager Whitey Anderson

BOTH sides had to settle for a point in this thrilling game at a blustery Ferney Park on Saturday, as Stute failed to beat the Mallards this season in three attempts.

Midfielder Darren McCauley, on loan from Coleraine, got his first goal for the club on 12 minutes, heading in Mark Kelly's corner.

Both Jason McCartney and Stuart Hutchinson went close for the Mallards in what was a keenly contested half between the sides.

Stephen Sheridan hit the post for the Fermanagh side immediately after the break and they had a strong shout for a penalty turned down when Andy Crawford was fouled, but referee Wesley Campbell deemed the offence to be on the edge of the box.

Ballinamallard got a deserved equaliser on 65 minutes however. Crawford dispossessed Dean Jarvis only for Corey Wilson to save, but as the ball sprang loose in the penalty area, substitute Stephen Sheridan was on hand to tap in.

Tempers flared both on and off the pitch which set up a pulsating finale and Ballinamallard could have perhaps nicked a win with five minutes remaining, but Wilson managed to get a block on Mark Stafford's goal-bound header.
