EAGLES THROUGH AFTER SPOT-KICK DRAMA
Armagh City made it through to the BetMcLean Cup quarter-finals following a penalty shoot-out defeat of Glenavon at Holm Park.
Glenavon had the ball in the net with around ten minutes on the clock after Harry Lynch turned home a Jack Malone cross into the box but the officials ruled it out offside.
The Premiership side then hit the woodwork midway through the first half after David McDaid did well to turn and get his shot away.
The Eagles might have moved in front early in the second half but were denied by a triple save by Gareth Deane but, ultimately, neither side managed to find a way through in normal time.
And it was a similar tale in extra-time, with penalties inevitably needed to settle the tie … and the sides seemed just as inseparable with a remarkable 20 spot-kicks required to decide a winner before, in sudden death, Jack Clarke converted followed by a James Carroll miss to send Shea Campbell's side through.
