LUSTY GOAL SEES SWIFTS REACH LAST EIGHT
A Matthew Lusty goal with around a quarter-of-an-hour remaining saw Dungannon Swifts secure a BetMcLean Cup last eight place at Cliftonville's expense.
The Swifts might have moved in front at Stangmore Park inside the opening minute after Niall Owens latched onto a poor backpass only for Reds keeper Nathan Gartside to turn the ball behind.
Dungannon continued to press as the first half progressed, creating a number of opportunities before Ethan McGee came close with a volley from inside the box.
Cliftonville were the better side early in the second half, and might have levelled through Sam Ashford after connecting with Ronan Doherty's cross only to head off target from close range.
Chris Gallagher then offered up a thunderous effort from distance that fell just wide while, at the other end, an Owens cross was deflected wide as Tomas Galvin looked poised to pounce.
The Reds were then thwarted by a Dunne fingertip save to deny Ronan Hale, before the Cliftonville man blazed over the top after running onto a Jonny Addis ball.
But Dungannon came closest just after the hour when Ethan McGee teed Caolan Marron up inside the area only for his subsequent effort to strike the outside of the post.
However what proved to be the winner came on 77 minutes when Lusty evaded challenges from Luke Kenny and Shea Kearney to slot the ball past Gartside at the near post.
