McMURRAY DOUBLE ENSURES SKY BLUES PROGRESS
Jonathan McMurray scored twice as Ballymena United were comfortable winners against Lisburn Distillery in the First Round of the BetMcLean Cup.
The Premier Intermediate League side started brightly at the Showgrounds, but it was Ballymena who broke the deadlock on 25 minutes as Fintan O’Boyle’s turn and shot proved too hot for Carry to handle.
Within a further five minutes winger Alex Gawne got in on the act to add another for the Sky Blues, heading home Fraser Taylor’s cross to make it 2-0.
Ballymena United weren’t finished yet in a ruthless first half display as Johnny McMurray fired home the third with eight minutes remaining in the first period, after a superb pass from TJ Murray.
McMurray was at it again straight from the kick-off of the second half, as he punished Distillery with his second goal of the game and United’s fourth which was enough to ensure passage into the next round for the 2017 competition winners.
