GLENAVON BAG SIX OF THE BEST
Glenavon hit Dollingstown for six at Mourneview Park to reach the second round of the BetMcLean Cup.
The Lurgan Blues gained control of the game with two goals in quick succession midway through the first half. Josh Doyle opened the scoring on 24 minutes with a header from a corner before, sixty seconds later, Conor Scannell got on the end of a Doyle back heel to finish well.
And another quickfire double in the closing moments of the first half put Glenavon out of sight.
Scannell doubled his tally for the evening with a tap-in from Sean Carey's cross while, in stoppage time, Micheal Glynn found the net through a crowded box.
Glenavon's fifth came with a quarter-of-an-hour remaining when Aaron Prendergast fired low past keeper Gareth Buchanan.
Then, a minute later, the scoring was completed when Christopher Atherton - only on the pitch a matter of seconds - crosses for Matthew Snoddy to tap past the visiting keeper.
Incidentlly, Atherton's appearance at 13 years 329 days made him the youngest player in UK history to play in a senior game. Quite an introduction!
