ROESIDERS STUN SWIFTS TO REACH LAST EIGHT
Limavady United caused the upset of the Bet McLean League Cup Third Round with victory over Dungannon Swifts at The Showgrounds.
The Premier Intermediate League side kept fighting back against their senior opponents to record a famous win and set up a quarter-final clash with Warrenpoint Town next week at Milltown.
The Roesiders needed just nine seconds to open the scoring when Ryan Doherty lobbed the ball over Swifts keeper Niall Morgan.
Dungannon tried to hit back almost instantly but Ben Gallagher could only fire straight at Connor Brown. Further chances followed as the first half progressed with Caolan McAleer, Rhyss Campbell and Gallagher again all having efforts on goal but all to no avail.
However, the visitors did eventually get back on level terms six minutes after the break through Cahal McGinty with the follow up after Joe McCready's initial effort was well saved.
But Limavady restored their lead just three minutes later when Dean Brown beat the offside trap to slot past Morgan.
The Swifts equalised for a second time on 70 minutes, this time through James Convie's finish into the far corner after Ryan Mayse's delivery was nodded into his path.
However, Limavady moved back in front once more with 11 minutes remaining - and this time it proved to be final after Alex Pomeroy slotted home from the spot after Ethan McGee was adjudged to have pulled back an opponent in the area.
