BANNSIDERS KICK OFF CUP DEFENCE IN STYLE
Coleraine started the defence of their long-held BetMcLean League Cup in style with a 5-0 win away to Bangor.
The game was only 15 minutes old when Cathair Friel opened the scoring for the Bannsiders, taking advantage of good work by Ronan Wilson to fire in his first goal since re-joining the club in the summer.
Coleraine shell-shocked the home side with their second goal quickly after, barely two minutes had elapsed since the first goal before Conor McKendry took off on a run which resulted in him evading two challenging and firing an unstoppable effort past Ben Nicholl.
Things went from bad to worse for Lee Feeney’s Premier Intermediate League outfit – as on 23 minutes McKendry turned provider for Evan Tweed to smash home Coleraine’s third of the evening.
Coleraine’s relentless pursuit of goals continued, and they were awarded a penalty on 31 minutes, which Cathair Friel converted despite the best efforts and guesswork of Nicholl in the home goal.
Taking their four goal advantage into the break, the goals dried up in the second period. Though 16 minutes from time, Friel bagged his hat-trick after good work again by Wilson and ensured that Coleraine continue the path to the League Cup final once again.
