FALLON DOUBLE HELPS BLUES THROUGH
Stephen Fallon’s double for Linfield set his team on their way to a comfortable 4-0 victory over Ballyclare Comrades in the BetMcLean League Cup.
The Blues started brightly at Dixon Park, putting their Championship opponents under pressure from the early stages but failing to create many clear cut chances, Ross Larkin’s header which was saved by Purcell the best of the opening chances.
Fallon opened his account for the evening on 27 minutes, picking up the ball outside the area he fired a wonderful effort into the top corner for Linfield to take the lead.
The narrow lead lasted until half-time and within five minutes of the restart Fallon found the net again firing home from a tight angle after good work down the Linfield right hand side.
It was goalscorer turned provider for the third goal of the evening, the impressive Fallon’s cross found Matt Green at the back post – who made no mistake on 67 minutes.
Linfield continued to press with intent, and substitute Billy Chadwick capped off a fine solo effort with a neat finish past the Comrades goalkeeper with four minutes to wrap the game for David Healy’s men and a place in the third round draw.
