HOLDERS LINFIELD EASE THROUGH TO QUARTER-FINALS
Holders Linfield breezed into the last eight of the BetMcLean League Cup with a four goal victory over Dungannon Swifts at Stangmore Park.
The Blues moved in front after five minutes through Stephen Fallon who fired past young Swifts keeper Conner Byrne from 25 yards.
Jimmy Callacher doubled Linfield's advantage after a quarter-of-an-hour with a back post finish from Kirk Millar's free-kick which had been flicked on by Ryan McGivern.
Dungannon attempted to claw their way back into the game with efforts from Seanan Clucas, Sean Noble and Rhyss Campbell all causing concern.
However, just short of the hour, Joel Cooper put the game to bed with Linfield's third of the night, a stooping header after Millar had delivered a corner from the left.
Then, with 12 minutes left, Andy Waterworth completed the scoring after he controlled a McGivern ball over the top to turn and fire past Byrne into the bottom corner.
