Formed in 1949, the Swifts got off to a great start in their first complete season by lifting the Mid Ulster Shield.
A year later they joined the Mid Ulster League and came close to a triple cup success only to finish runners-up in the Alexander Cup, Foster Cup and Mid Ulster Shield.
This success continued with a league win in 1951/52, a runners-up place in the Irish Junior Cup and then a Mid Ulster League and Shield double in 1956.
A spell in the Irish Junior Alliance League followed before the league folded in the early 60s prompting a return to the Mid Ulster League, which they won again in 1969/70.
The Swifts joined the Irish League ranks in the early 70s, finishing fourth in the 'B' Division in their inaugural season. More silverware wasn't far away ... the George Wilson Cup followed in 1974, then the 'B' Division South title a year later in addition to the Mid-Ulster and Louis Moore Cups before their biggest success in the form of the IFA Intermediate Cup in 1978.
Dominant at that level, the club enjoyed numerous Bob Radcliffe Cup victories and another Intermediate Cup win in 1992 before achieving senior status with a step up to the First Division five years after that.
A league title and Ulster Cup double followed in 2002/03, and with it promotion to the top flight where they have stayed ever since.
A fourth place finish in 2006 brought qualification for Europe for the first time, losing to Icelandic side Keflavik on aggregate.
A year later the Swifts reached their first Irish Cup final - a loss on penalties to Linfield - but that was enough to earn another foray into Europe during which they defeated FK Suduva from Lithuania in the first leg of their UEFA Cup tie only to exit the competition following a four-goal defeat in the return.
Regular winners of the Mid Ulster Cup over the years, the Swifts finally won their first senior trophy at national level in February 2018 when they defeated Ballymena United to win the League Cup.
