Crusaders Strikers ran out 4-1 winners over Sion Swifts Ladies in their penultimate league match to complete a league double over the visitors.
It was the Sion that started the game the better and Orla Devaney had a golden opportunity when well placed inside the area. Devaney was teed up perfectly by Kelly Crompton but she sidefooted wide of the right post on two minutes from 12 yards. With almost ten minutes on the clock the visitors threatened again this time Crompton shooting straight at Kirsty McCaughtry.
Sion where enjoying plenty of possession and boxed Crusaders into their own half. More pressure came and another chance came and went for Sion, this time Zoe McGlynn shooting straight at McCaughtry.
Midway through the first half Crusaders started to pick up more possession and opened the scoring when Emily Wilson expertly lobbed Naomh Barr from the edge of the area to take the lead against the run of play. Wilson looked quick and pounced on a loose ball to score from the edge of the area to break the deadlock.
That lead was soon doubled on 33 minutes when Danielle McDowell finished off a fine move by curling the ball into the top right corner. The Crues finished the half strongly and could have made it 3-0 on 39 minutes when Alex Ogle went close from a Wilson cut back.
After the break Sion looked sharp and striker Hannah Ward went close on 48 minutes.
However Sion didn’t have to wait too long as Devaney got on the score sheet after great work from Kendra McMullan down the left wing. Devaney blasted home from eight yards after the Crusaders defence couldn't clear McMullan's initial effort.
As the second half progressed Crusaders where dropping deeper and it felt as if Sion would draw level. With the Swifts pushing for an equalizer Crusaders where then awarded a penalty when Wilson was brought down inside the area. Crues captain Julie Nelson took the spot kick and sent Barr the wrong way to give the home side a two-goal cushion.
With only six minutes remaining the impressive and speedy Wilson scored her second and wrapped up all three points when she lobbed Barr for the second time to secure another league win for Crusaders.
