SWIFTS AND CITY SHARE THE GOALS AT DARRAGH PARK

After an impressive victory against Cliftonville in their last game, Swifts looked to build on their first three points of the season.

Sion settled into the game well and began to threaten the Newry goal with opportunities for Kendra McMullan and Chloe McGlade to get on the score sheet. Julianne Herrity looked like she had put Sion ahead after 15 minutes with a curling free kick but Newry 'keeper Dhebora Barbosa made a fine stop to keep the game level.

The breakthrough came for Sion in the 25th minute when Herrity played in McGlade who beat her marker and drilled it low across the box which resulted in a deflection off defender Grace Murray.

The second half began with Newry coming out the better team and capitalised on this in the 68th minute with a mistake by the home defence giving Celine Curtis a chance to make it 1-1.

A quarter-of-an-hour later Aimee Mackin made it 2-1 to the visitors after chasing down a ball over the top before beating 'keeper Niamh Mailey.

Sion struggled to press Newry in the last ten minutes but a breakthrough came in the 85th minute with a diagonal ball out to McGlade who struck it past the 'keeper to make it 2-2.
