WALKER GRABS LATE WINNER FOR TEN-MAN NEWRY

Newry settled quickly into the game and had the majority of possession in a fast paced first half but they didn't make many clear cut chances.

The closest they came was when Mark McCabe's fine effort from 25 yards thumped the post and stayed out. Queen's 'keeper Declan Brown had a fine game and he eased the pressure on his defence on a number of occasions by coming off his line to catch dangerous crosses.

The pace increased in an excellent second half.

Queen's were much more in the game and took the lead when Michael Allison cut in from the right and scored with a well struck low shot into the far corner.

The lead lasted just a few moments. From a corner Brown made an excellent save but the ball fell perfectly to Newry defender John Boyle who scored from a few yards.

However, Boyle's joy was short lived as he was sent off for a second yellow card offence just over a quarter-of-an-hour later.

With the Newry 'keeper off his line, the home team's Daire Rooney struck a volley from 25 yards which hit the post and went wide.

Newry then won a corner on the left which resulted in a number of blocked shots before Jimmy Walker fired a low drive through a crowded box and into the corner of the net for the winning goal.
