BANBRIDGE GAIN CUP REVENGE ON SEASIDERS

Banbridge Town gained revenge on Bangor after the Seasiders had dumped them out of the Intermediate Cup a few weeks earlier.

Conor Downey fired Town in front five minutes from the break when he timed his run to perfection to get on the end of a Stuart King free-kick to glance the ball past 'keeper Darren Gibbons into the far corner.

Neil Clydesdale made it 2-0 on 69 minutes with a thundering finish into the top corner after Matthew McCartan had been brought down to win the free-kick.

And McCartan himself completed the scoring with seven minutes to go. Substitute Stephen McCavitt used his pace to break clear of the Bangor defence before having a shot on goal which was cleared off the line but, from the rebound, McCartan threw himself into a diving header to cement a good afternoon for Banbridge.

Indeed, Andrew Devlin might have added a fourth towards the end only to direct the shot onto the outside of the post with Gibbons beaten.
