NO GOALS AT TILLYSURN AS WOODWORK RATTLED

After a slow start the deadlock was almost broken on 25 minutes when Welders 'keeper Jason Craughwell let a Stephen Hughes effort slip through his hands only for the ball to drift just over.

At the other end Steven Maguire backpedalled to tip a Scott McMillan header over while, with ten minutes remaining of the first half, Mark McCabe was thwarted after Craughwell was alert to rush quickly off his line to turn the ball away for a corner.

William Armstrong almost found a way through early in the second half but, despite beating Maguire, could only look on as his hooked effort struck the crossbar.

Craughwell denied the visitors again as play switched with Marty Havern seeing an effort blocked while Hughes then saw a half volley kept out by an outstretched leg.

Further chances followed for Newry with Thomas McCann's 30-yard drive saved before, towards the end, Keith Johnston struck the base of an upright.
