Danny McKee grabbed both goals as HW Welders defeated Institute after extra-time at the Riverside Stadium.
'Stute might have edged into the lead on 22 minutes when Mark Scoltock tested Welders 'keeper Samuel Johnston in what was arguably the best chance of a scoreless first half.
After the break, McKee squandered an opportunity to open the soring when broke clear of the defence only to pull his shot wide.
Then, on 67 minutes, Ryan Deans fired over from the edge of the area as the Welders looked the more likely to make a breakthrough.
As the half wore on Jordan Armstrong sent the ball narrowly wide following a goalmouth scramble.
The Welders were reduced to ten men with just under a quarter-of-an-hour remaining after Rainey was dismissed for an off the ball incident.
McKee then almost snatched the winner in normal time only to see his effort cannon back off the crossbar.
However, McKee was on target ten minutes into the first period of extra-time after he had been upended by Scoltock in the box, keeping his composure to beat Doherty from the spot. Scoltock was also given his marching orders after collecting his second booking of the game during the incident.
Then, four minutes after that, McKee struck again after outpacing the defence to slide the ball past the 'keeper into the unguarded net.
